Construction of the chain<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zwei unterschiedlich gro\u00dfe Rollenketten, Aufbaubeispiel.
Bei der Buchsenrollenkette wechseln sich zwei Arten von Gliedern ab. Die erste Art sind die Innenglieder, bestehend aus zwei inneren Lamellen, die durch zwei Buchsen zusammengehalten werden, auf denen sich zwei Rollen drehen. Die Innenglieder wechseln sich mit den CZPT-Au\u00dfengliedern ab, die aus zwei \u00e4u\u00dferen Lamellen bestehen, die durch Bolzen verbunden sind, welche durch die Buchsen der Innenglieder verlaufen. Die \u201ebuchsenlose\u201c Rollenkette funktioniert \u00e4hnlich, ist aber anders konstruiert: Anstelle separater Buchsen, die die inneren Lamellen zusammenhalten, ist in die Lasche ein Rohr eingepr\u00e4gt, das aus der Bohrung herausragt und denselben Zweck erf\u00fcllt. Dies hat den Vorteil, dass ein Montageschritt entf\u00e4llt.<\/p>\n

Variants in design<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wird die Kette nicht f\u00fcr Anwendungen mit hohem Verschlei\u00df eingesetzt (beispielsweise zur Kraft\u00fcbertragung von einem handbet\u00e4tigten Hebel auf eine Steuerwelle einer Maschine oder einer Schiebet\u00fcr eines Ofens), kann eine der einfacheren Kettenarten verwendet werden. Ist hingegen eine h\u00f6here Festigkeit bei gleichzeitig leichtg\u00e4ngigem Lauf mit kleinerer Teilung erforderlich, kann die Kette mehrlagig ausgef\u00fchrt sein. Anstelle von nur zwei Laschenreihen an den Au\u00dfenseiten der Kette k\u00f6nnen drei (\u201eDuplex\u201c), vier (\u201eTriplex\u201c) oder mehr parallel verlaufende Laschenreihen vorhanden sein, zwischen denen jeweils zwei benachbarte Laschen durch Buchsen und Rollen getrennt sind. Die entsprechende Anzahl an Zahnreihen verl\u00e4uft parallel auf den Kettenr\u00e4dern. Steuerketten in Automobilmotoren beispielsweise verf\u00fcgen typischerweise \u00fcber mehrere Laschenreihen, sogenannte Litzen.<\/p>\n

Verwenden<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rollenketten werden in Antrieben mit niedrigen bis mittleren Geschwindigkeiten von etwa 600 bis 800 Fu\u00df pro Minute eingesetzt; bei h\u00f6heren Geschwindigkeiten von etwa 2.000 bis 3.000 Fu\u00df pro Minute werden jedoch aufgrund von Verschlei\u00df- und Ger\u00e4uschproblemen normalerweise Keilriemen verwendet.
Eine Fahrradkette ist eine Art Rollenkette. Fahrradketten k\u00f6nnen ein Kettenschloss haben oder zum Anbringen und Abnehmen ein Kettennieter erfordern. Eine \u00e4hnliche, aber gr\u00f6\u00dfere und damit st\u00e4rkere Kette wird bei den meisten Motorr\u00e4dern verwendet, obwohl sie manchmal durch einen Zahnriemen oder einen Kardanantrieb ersetzt wird, die einen geringeren Ger\u00e4uschpegel und einen niedrigeren Wartungsaufwand bieten.
Die gro\u00dfe Mehrheit der Automobilmotoren verwendet Rollenketten zum Antrieb der Nockenwelle(n). Sehr leistungsstarke Motoren verwenden oft Zahnradantrieb, und ab den fr\u00fchen 1960er Jahren wurden von einigen Herstellern Zahnriemen eingesetzt.
Ketten werden auch bei Gabelstaplern mit Hydraulikzylindern als Umlenkrolle zum Anheben und Absenken des Gabeltr\u00e4gers verwendet; diese Ketten werden jedoch nicht als Rollenketten, sondern als Hub- oder Blattketten bezeichnet.
Die Trennketten von Kettens\u00e4gen \u00e4hneln \u00e4u\u00dferlich Rollenketten, sind aber enger mit Blattketten verwandt. Sie werden durch vorstehende Treibglieder angetrieben, die gleichzeitig dazu dienen, die Kette auf der F\u00fchrungsschiene zu positionieren.<\/p>\n

Sea Harrier FA.2 ZA195 CZPT (kalt) Schubvektord\u00fcse \u2013 die D\u00fcse wird \u00fcber einen Kettenantrieb von einem Luftmotor gedreht.
Eine vielleicht ungew\u00f6hnliche Verwendung von zwei Motorradketten findet sich beim Harrier Jump CZPT, wo ein Kettenantrieb von einem Luftmotor genutzt wird, um die beweglichen Triebwerksd\u00fcsen zu drehen, wodurch diese f\u00fcr den Schwebeflug nach unten oder f\u00fcr den normalen Vorw\u00e4rtsflug nach hinten gerichtet werden k\u00f6nnen \u2013 ein System, das als Schubvektorsteuerung bekannt ist.<\/p>\n

Wear<\/strong><\/p>\n

Der Verschlei\u00df einer Rollenkette f\u00fchrt zu einer Vergr\u00f6\u00dferung der Teilung (Abstand der Kettenglieder) und damit zu einer Kettenverl\u00e4ngerung. Dies ist auf Verschlei\u00df an den Drehzapfen und Buchsen zur\u00fcckzuf\u00fchren, nicht auf eine tats\u00e4chliche Dehnung des Metalls (wie sie beispielsweise bei flexiblen Stahlbauteilen wie dem Handbremsseil eines Kraftfahrzeugs vorkommt).<\/p>\n

Bei modernen Ketten ist es ungew\u00f6hnlich, dass eine Kette (au\u00dfer Fahrradketten) bis zum Bruch verschlei\u00dft, da eine verschlissene Kette zu schnellem Verschlei\u00df der Ritzelz\u00e4hne f\u00fchrt, was schlie\u00dflich zum Verlust aller Z\u00e4hne am Ritzel f\u00fchrt. Die Ritzel (insbesondere das kleinere der beiden) unterliegen einer Schleifbewegung, die eine charakteristische Hakenform in die Antriebsfl\u00e4che der Z\u00e4hne einpr\u00e4gt. (Dieser Effekt wird durch eine falsch gespannte Kette verst\u00e4rkt, ist aber trotz aller Sorgfalt unvermeidbar.) Die verschlissenen Z\u00e4hne (und die Kette) verhindern eine reibungslose Kraft\u00fcbertragung, was sich durch Ger\u00e4usche, Vibrationen oder (bei Automotoren mit Steuerkette) durch die mit einer Z\u00fcndzeitpunktpistole messbare Z\u00fcndzeitpunktabweichung bemerkbar machen kann. In diesen F\u00e4llen sollten sowohl Ritzel als auch Kette ausgetauscht werden, da eine neue Kette auf verschlissenen Ritzeln nicht lange h\u00e4lt. In weniger schweren F\u00e4llen kann jedoch das gr\u00f6\u00dfere der beiden Ritzel m\u00f6glicherweise erhalten werden, da das kleinere in der Regel am st\u00e4rksten verschlei\u00dft. Nur bei sehr leichten Anwendungen wie einem Fahrrad oder in extremen F\u00e4llen unsachgem\u00e4\u00dfer Kettenspannung springt die Kette normalerweise von den Ritzeln.<\/p>\n

In der Industrie ist es \u00fcblich, die Bewegung des Kettenspanners (manuell oder automatisch) oder die genaue L\u00e4nge der Antriebskette zu \u00fcberwachen (eine Faustregel besagt, dass eine Rollenkette mit einer L\u00e4nge von 31 Z\u00e4hnen bei einem verstellbaren Antrieb bzw. 1,51 Z\u00e4hnen bei einem festen Kettenmittelpunkt ausgetauscht werden sollte). Eine einfachere Methode, die sich besonders f\u00fcr Fahrrad- und Motorradfahrer eignet, ist, die Kette vom gr\u00f6\u00dferen der beiden Ritzel wegzuziehen, w\u00e4hrend man sicherstellt, dass sie straff gespannt ist. Jede deutliche Bewegung (z. B. wenn man durch einen Spalt sehen kann) deutet wahrscheinlich auf eine verschlissene Kette hin. Wird das Problem ignoriert, kommt es zu Sch\u00e4den am CZPT-Gelenk. Verschlei\u00df des CZPT-Gelenks hebt diesen Effekt auf und kann den Kettenverschlei\u00df verdecken.<\/p>\n

Chain strength<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most common measure of roller chain’s strength is tensile strength. Tensile strength represents how much load a\u00a0chain can withstand under a\u00a0one-time load before breaking. Just as important as tensile strength is a\u00a0chain’s fatigue strength. The critical factors in a\u00a0chain’s fatigue strength is the quality of steel used to manufacture the chain, the heat treatment of the chain components, the quality of the pitch hole fabrication of the linkplates, and the type of shot plus the intensity of shot peen coverage on the linkplates. CZPT factors can include the thickness of the linkplates and the design (contour) of the linkplates. The rule of thumb for roller chain operating on a\u00a0continuous drive is for the chain load to not exceed a\u00a0mere 1\/6 or 1\/9 of the chain’s tensile strength, depending on the type of master links used (press-fit vs. slip-fit)[citation needed]. Roller chains operating on a\u00a0continuous drive beyond these thresholds can and typically do fail prematurely via linkplate fatigue failure.<\/p>\n

The standard minimum ultimate strength of the ANSI 29.1 steel chain is 12,500 x\u00a0(pitch, in inches)2. X-ring and O-Ring chains greatly decrease wear by means of internal lubricants, increasing chain life. The internal lubrication is inserted by means of a\u00a0vacuum when riveting the chain together.<\/p>\n

Chain standards<\/strong><\/p>\n

Standards organizations (such as ANSI and ISO) maintain standards for design, dimensions, and interchangeability of transmission chains.
